Career Counseling

One of the first steps to a successful career change or job search involves an in-depth assessment of your skills, interests and values and matching them to the needs of the job market. In today's world, " know thyself" takes on new meaning. JVS offers several nationally recognized assessment tests to help you discover your personal characteristics and management style; identify career options to match your interests; examine your skills, strengths and weaknesses; and prioritize what's most important to help you achieve job satisfaction. Theses personal and confidential assessments are customized to fit your needs.

After taking one of these assessments online, one of JVS' certified career counselors will help you to:

1. Establish specific and realistic career plans to maximize your potential.
2. Pinpoint your strengths, personality style, interests and skills that are the stepping stones for a successful career.
3. Analyze what may be holding you back in your career and how to overcome it.
4. Identify new opportunities in your current career or new directions to take your job search.
5. Define your educational goals.

Resume Writing and Cover Letters

In today's job market your resume must establish your image, position your candidacy, open doors, and cut your job search time. Above all, it must stand out from the crowd. JVS' Career FasTrak online will upgrade, edit, or refocus your resume and cover letter for a new industry or career transition, as well as identify the best format to present your qualifications. JVS provides proven templates for both resumes and cover letters.

Virtual Workshops

JVS' Career FasTrak offers three different virtual workshops: interviewing, resumes and job search. Learn the techniques to ace any interview, as well as answer the difficult questions; and how to update or better target your resume, including the different types of resume formats to use. In addition, FasTrak workshops will help you discover the most effective methods and tools for your job search that can significantly cut your search time. Conducted on-line by JVS' career experts, each participant will also receive a packet of materials to follow along with at home. These workshops are available as part of JVS' Basic  membership; for more information, please see below.

If you are currently a registered client and want to take assessments click here.

  • Who am I

This assessment is designed to reveal your distinctive personal characteristics and can help you figure out the best careers for your style. The Myers Briggs is one of the most widely used and accepted tests by employers.

  • What do I like to do?

This assessment is designed to identify the occupations, environments and activities that match your interests. The Strong Interest Inventory can help give you direction in your career and job search.

  • What am I good at?

This assessment will examine your skills and help you realize your strengths and preferences. The Marketable Skills Assessment will also help you to discover what job skills you're good at, and what job skills and descriptions to avoid. Essentially, it will help you learn how to "sell" yourself to a potential employer.

  • What motivates me?

WHO AM I?

  • Do you want to know the best careers for your personal style?
  • Would you like to learn how to communicate more effectively and build stronger personal and professional relationships?
  • Would you like to discover your unique personality traits?
  • Are you feeling there is something missing in your work life?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions then the Myers Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI) is for you.

The MBTI is a behavioral assessment designed to reveal your distinctive personality characteristics. It will demonstrate how you behave in different situations and how your characteristics influence your way of communicating and interacting with others. The inventory is a key to recognizing and understanding the differences between other personality types and improving your communication in business and personal relationships.

Taking the "MBTI" will help you to:

  • Identify what motivates and energizes you.
  • Enhance your communication with co-workers and management.
  • Improve your decision making and problem solving ability.
  • Discover the 50 most popular occupations for your personality style.
  • Recognize the 25 least popular occupations for your personality style.

If you are a career professional or executive with numerous years of experience, or are contemplating a mid-life career change, JVS also suggests taking the MBTI Step II Form Q. This more advanced assessment test will help you move up the next level of success on the career ladder, and provide a 30 page in-depth report that will give you a better understanding and application of the results from the MBTI. The test results could also be used in performance reviews, and help give you solid justification for the promotion you have in mind.

The "MBTI Step ll Form Q" will analyze and help you to understand your personal style in the areas of:

  • Communication
  • Decision-Making
  • Change Management
  • Managing Conflict

By taking this assessment, JVS can give you powerful suggestions and tips on how to enhance your strengths and effectiveness in all of the above areas.
