Volunteer needs include business representatives, career counselors, job developers and skilled tutors. JVS/LAUSD Literacy Tutor
• Successfully complete orientation and free 6-hour training
•Work in classrooms with adult-learners on basic reading and writing skills 1.5 hr (minimum), once or twice-weekly
•Be learner centered
•Report monthly regarding hours and students’ progress via mail, fax or email

Forward resumes to employers as candidates apply for jobs. Call companies regarding job postings on ParnosshWorksLA to verify current availability and remove all outdated job postings. Post new job openings on ParnossahWorksLA site. Solicit new job postings from employers. Computer skills required.

Career Counselor/Career Coaching - Adjunct (Drop-In)

Work one-on-one with clients in an effort that supports their job search. Assist with resumes, interview skills, job search and provide tips on how to successfully market client to prospective employers. Lead or assist in career workshops. Expertise in job search process, excellent communication skills required.

Case Manager Assistant
• Immigrant & Refugee Services (Refugee Employment Program)
Assist case manager with JVS clients who do not speak English. In-take and follow-up. Work one-on-one with clients assisting in communication and documentation; translating during interviews, explaining documents & calling clients. Volunteers who speak the following languages are needed: (Amharic, Arabic, Somalian, Spanish and Tigrinia).

Classroom Assistant

Assist BankWorks Program Manager in classroom for 8-week program which consists of; job training, job placement assistance and ongoing coaching for career advancement in the banking industry.

Client Follow-up

Telephone clients to learn of their progress since last contact with JVS & follow up with vocational evaluation and to find out if they are following program recommendations. If the client is employed get details of the company and job. If unemployed, ask them how JVS could be of further assistance. Encourage their use of agency resources.

Client Greeter/Escort - In-House
• Career Services Department
Greet and escort clients from building lobby to JVS office on 2nd floor. Help clients feel comfortable while they wait in reception area for staff and procedures. Assist with mailings and light clerical duties, when needed.

Computer Tutor
• West Hollywood Worksource
Conduct weekly computer classes for Worksource clients. Teaching fundamentals, such as; how to establish an e-mail account, saving and retrieving files and uploading resumes to on-line job applications, how to use Microsoft Word to create and properly format resumes and cover letters, how to join and navigate on-line social networking sites, such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Computer skills required - an expertise in job search process and on-line social networking sites helpful but not required.

Focus on positions in keeping with specific backgrounds, skills and interests. Work closely with professional staff in the determination of a direction for solicitation efforts. Review
resumes and current job postings for a good match. Cold calling out to prospective employers for the purpose of finding job openings for JVS clients, Excellent writing, communication and computer skills required.
