8-13-2012 –Angelica Generoso will head up the HealthWorks[TM] program, one of JVS' signature training initiatives, which starts individuals on a career path in the health care industry. The 12-week program prepares individuals to take the State Certification Examination to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), the first step on a health care career ladder. To date, the program has seen 100% of its students pass the State Certification exam, with 81% of graduates finding jobs within the first six months.
More than 450 GAIN participants attended the job fair, eclipsing the previous number of 279 who attended the previous job fair. They met and interacted with 14 employers including Kohl’s Department Store, Select Staffing, Primerica, Starwood Hotels and Goodwill of Southern California.

JVS Hosts Goodwill Hiring Event at Marina del Rey WorkSource Center
(June 25, 2012). JVS and Goodwill Retail Services are looking for a few good bookstore and donation center attendants.
On Wednesday, June 27, Goodwill will hold a hiring event at JVS’s Marina del Rey WorkSource Center, at 13160 Mindanao Way, #207 Marina Del Rey, CA 90292. Applicants are invited to submit resumes for 23 open positions at Good Will stores set to open in Culver City, El Segundo, Pacific Palisades, West Los Angeles and Marina Del Rey.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and interested parties may come at any time during these hours. Goodwill will conduct pre-screening and final interviewing on site and possibly make hiring decisions by the end of the day.
Everyone is invited to attend including both current JVS WorkSource clients and non-clients. Part-time and full-time openings are available. Applicants do not need to be working with a JVS case manager to apply for these positions.
The bookstore and donation center attendant positions pay $8.50 per hour. Goodwill will also be reviewing resumes for store manager openings at $12 per hour, as well as for assistant store managers, attended donation center attendants and key holders, drivers, dock workers and material handlers.
To be considered for the bookstore and donation center openings, applicants must have a good knowledge of basic math; the ability to lift 40 pounds and stand for 5 to 8 hours; punctual and dependable attendance and the ability to work a variable or flexible schedule and overtime. Applicants must also possess good communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision and provide excellent customer and donor service.
All applicants should “dress to impress.” Previous experience in retail or working with the public is a plus. A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Bi-lingual English-Spanish a plus.
Interested JVS clients should bring several copies of their work experience resumes.
Non-JVS clients will need to bring:

Jewish Vocational Service’s (JVS) Veterans First program has earned a Nonprofit Citizenship Award from the Los Angeles Business Journal (LABJ).
Effective July 1, 2012 Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) will be relocating a number of its services from its West Valley campus at the Milken Center to a satellite JVS office in Sherman Oaks. The Milken Center building has been sold by the Jewish Federation, and will be closing on June 30.
On Thursday, May 17 JVS presented its 2012 Corporate Awards to Bank of America and AMS Fulfillment, two companies that have hired over 150 JVS clients over the past few years at a luncheon held at The Beverly Hilton. Steve Hirsh, Founding Chair of the event and owner of the legendary downtown Cooper Design Center, presented the awards.
