Microenterprise
Microenterprise is a business concept that is gaining popularity as companies and job-seekers look for innovative ways to create jobs.
It is a way to finance small businesses or non-profits that can, in turn, help others in the community.
As early as the 1940s, before the term even existed, JVS offered microenterprise loans to clients, funding a gas station, contracting and elevator operator businesses.
Today, the agency has taken that concept even further. Community Care at Home, which was launched by JVS as a separate non-profit 501(c)3, grew out of the agency’s successful Certified Nurse Assistant training program for low-income clients.
The initial goal of Community Care At Home was to place these CNA graduates in the home health care field.
Seven years later, with the in-home care industry expanding and Community Care at Home firmly established, JVS has moved on to develop other promising projects.
In conjunction with the State Department of Rehabilitation, JVS conducts Small Business Plan Evaluations for clients with disabilities.
These small business plans have resulted in a music composition storage business and a community gardening program.
