CALIFORNIA ENERGY CZAR PROMOTES CONSERVATION AT JVS LUNCHEON
S. David Freeman, California’s Chief Energy Advisor to Governor Gray Davis, offered insight on various ways local businesses can survive the current electricity crisis.
Los Angeles, Calif., (May 16, 2001) JVS, www.jvsla.org, a non-profit, non-sectarian organization that helps people find work and redirect their careers, held their 4th annual Strictly Business Lunch today with over 400 business leaders in attendance and featured "California Energy Czar" S. David Freeman as keynote speaker.
Freeman congratulated JVS on its efforts to reach out to the community and challenged Los Angeles residents to be community minded as well. By conserving electricity this summer, Freeman noted that we can help to keep the lights on in other parts of the State.
"We were thrilled that Mr. Freeman was able to speak at our annual luncheon," commented Vivian Seigel, Executive Vice President/Chief Executive Officer, Jewish Vocational Service. "Because of JVS’ focus on conservation - of employees and resources - Mr. Freeman was the perfect choice for our Strictly Business Luncheon."
"We are pleased to honor Kaiser Permanente as the first ever San Fernando Valley recipient of the Corporate Citizen of the Year Award," commented Vivian Seigel, Executive Vice President/Chief Executive Officer, Jewish Vocational Service (JVS). "By joining forces with JVS to provide job fairs to the people of the San Fernando Valley, Kaiser Permanente has provided a much needed service to job seekers all over Los Angeles."
Strictly Business showcases the partnership between Los Angeles area businesses and JVS. The Strictly Business Luncheon honors successes in the workplace, featuring employers and JVS clients who are now employees.
"This annual event is JVS’ chance each year to highlight the services we provide to local businesses," said Seigel. "Many of the businesses here today have turned to JVS in the past to find the right employees for their specific needs. This event is our opportunity to say thank you to these businesses who help us in our mission to help the people of Los Angeles County find the right job and excel at it."
